Panna was the capital of Maharaja Chhatrasal and is famous as India's diamond district, with mines near Majhgawan. The Panna Tiger Reserve along the Ken river is celebrated for bringing tigers back after they had disappeared locally. The Mahamati Prannath temple makes Panna a centre of the Pranami faith.
