Niwari, Madhya Pradesh's newest district, was carved out of Tikamgarh in 2018. It contains Orchha, the 16th-century capital of the Bundela kings on the Betwa river, famed for the Ram Raja Temple, Jahangir Mahal, Chaturbhuj Temple, and its riverside royal chhatris.
